Thank You!

Thank you to everyone for participating in the second annual Cox Conserves E-Waste Collection Event. It was, once again, a huge success!

People came from all over the Roanoke Valley to responsibly dispose of their electronic waste. They drove from Bent Mountain, Blacksburg and Blue Ridge, from Callaway, Catawba and Clifton Forge. From as close as downtown Roanoke to as far away as Patrick Springs, folks dropped off old computers, TVs, cell phones, cameras, toasters and even an old electric organ.

We unloaded over 1,000 vehicles and filled up 7 semis with e-waste our community did not want thrown into the landfill. Once we have the final tonnage number, we’ll post it here.

On behalf of Cox Conserves, thank you again for your participation.

WHAT HAPPENS TO THE E-WASTE?

Electronic waste will be trucked down to Synergy Recycling in Madison, NC - amazingly close for an ISO 14001:2004 Certified recycling business!

Please check the Accepted E-Waste List before bringing questionable items.

Upon reaching Synergy's facilities:

"Materials are inspected upon arrival.  All data storing devices are wiped or shredded. Components that are economically reusable are repaired for reuse. All end of life materials are disassembled or shredded in NC where metals are separated by type and returned to the commodities market. Plastics are separated and marketed into the plastics markets. TVs and end of life monitors are disassembled at our facility where the glass is sent to a CRT manufacturer for new tubes and the other materials are sent to their respective markets (metals or plastics).  We do not landfill electronics materials".
